My question, how can you say Public Mobile is for Canada? From the way it is looking, it is for the Greater Toronto area. There is still a lot of Canada not going to be covered by your wireless company. So you are basically only a regional carrier, who will probably sell out the first chance they get.

  2. Is this unlimited local and long distance?

  3. Parvinder says:

Exacty what I said How can it be Public Mobile is for Canada? Hello Vancouver is huge market this is where city fido started for $40 and also home of the olympics 2010. You are more going to be like sask tel, mts and thuderbay tel only a little bigger. I like your bussiness idea but you have left out a huge market of main major cities.

  4. Gary says:

Oh stop complaining everyone. Public Mobile will cover Ontario and Quebec (a very big market of over 19 million people I believe). And the title means they are a COMPANY built for Canada in Canada by Canadians. Nowhere do I see “a network built to cover every region of Canada”. They have their business plan and I am sure they will be very successful at what they do. Vancouver will have at least two new entrants in 2010.

Shaun: I believe they are not at liberty to discuss such information at the moment for obvious competitive reasons, but I am sure we will hear more about their plans in the coming month.

  5. Bruce says:

@Gary – How do you think they will be successful operating on outdated technology like CDMA? I guess they will be successful enough to make them look good for Bell to be bought out. Even Public Mobile’s CEO stated that they will probably sell in 5 years. I wouldn’t dare go to a company that is run from an ex Bell CEO. You know where his priorities will be. With his stock holders and not customers.

  6. Tal says:

Yeah, there is a big BUTT Alek, always a big BUTT…give you 3 guesses. Sign up folks, he wants to sell you all to Bell.

  7. Bruce says:

@Gary – I also wanted to add that it will take a few years before they are able to offer services to EVERYONE in Ontario and Quebec. Lookk on their coverage map, it is quite small, even with the future coverage areas. So my point is that they are only going to be regional.

  8. Public Mobile says:

    Thanks for your question Brad.
We are launching our offer in Montreal and Toronto only and we believe that Canadians in these regions are ready for a mobile phone company that will offer unlimited talk and text for a flat rate of $40/month. We hope to expand in the near future and serve Canadians throughout the country.

  9. Public Mobile says:

Thanks for all the responses. It’s great to see people so passionate.

The licences we bought in the 2008 wireless spectrum auction that Industry Canada conducted cover southern Ontario and south and east Quebec, and cover a population of 19 million people.

As far as expanding to cover other areas of Canada, we’ll certainly look at opportunities to expand as they arise.

  10. Tammy Flores says:

I have a question. I watched a debate between the new entrants on Youtube. Here’s the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugJajZxtUQI Why did you purchase the spectrum if you plan to sell out at some point? Just wanted to emphasis that you said basically selling out was just a better plan. You said that closer to the end of the 12 minute video. Here’s another one question…Are you afraid of competing with the incumbents? I mean the tone in the debate is such that you don’t want to rock the boat. I understand if you don’t want to answer those questions, but it would be nice if you would attempt to. Knowing that the government’s goals are for access to services such as Telecommunications and for the market forces to drive that. They are two questions that have been kind of bothering me and I was hoping you could clear them up.

  11. Tammy Flores says:

Still no attempt to answer. Why is that??? Did I strike a nerve???

  12. FedUp says:

    Tammy,

They won’t answer your questions because everyone knows you. Come back to Windmobility, we miss you there.

Love the idea and concept. With that said, in this day and age I think there is more than Text & Talk. Btw, is it truly unlimited long distance even if the phone I’m calling is not Public Mobile #?
What about HSPA? Recently I have been very frustrated with two of the old boys in the block. Certainly there is a need of simpler, truly reliable choices in the wireless data spectrum.

    All the best.
