Public Mobile Offers Unlimited Overseas Long Distance: 45 countries for $15. Yes, Really.

By david | Posted June 7th, 2010

Never before has calling so many countries from your cell phone been so affordable.  Starting July 15th, Public Mobile is offering unlimited calling to 45 countries for $15 a month.

All Public Mobile customers who have the $40 unlimited talk and text plan have the option of adding unlimited overseas calling for an additional $15.  There are no credit checks, no contracts and no surprises.

Canada has the highest per capita immigration rate in the world (Canada’s Immigration Program – Oct. 2004), and according to Statistics Canada, 2/3 of all Canadians self identify as being of ethnic origin.  So it’s no surprise that a vast majority of Canadians want to make overseas calls.  Yet, Canada has some of the highest long distance cell phone costs in the world.  Public Mobile’s overseas long distance plan provides consumers with something that hasn’t existed until now – great value, flexibility and simplicity.

“The majority of our customers have family and friends living all over the world.  Now they can call just to say hi, and not be surprised by the cost.  With unlimited overseas calling, they can talk for as long as they like,” said Public Mobile CEO Alek Krstajic.

I was hoping Lebanon would be on the list I would have transferred my number instantly :( . I hope you create an overseas add-on for 20$ which allows unlimited landline calling to countries outside this list (should include Lebanon!).

    Thank you

  2. Rami says:

I meant 20$ for just one country of our choice outside the list above.

  3. sam says:

Bangladesh should be on this list, there are over a million Bangladeshi’s just in the greater Toronto area. Just under a million in Montreal.

  4. Joe says:

These plans are for landline only? How much to call a mobile phone in Hong Kong or China?

  5. Public Mobile says:

You’ll be able to call landline phones and mobile phones in China, Singapore, Thailand, India and Hong Kong with our overseas long distance plan. The balance of the countries you’ll be able to make calls to landline phones.

  6. Carol says:

Yeah I was going to join if my country was in the list (I call mobiles in egypt). U should do an option “Choose one country of ur choice and get to call there unlimited” for a fixed amount of $.
Also what about international sms? Because I am with another company and i get unlimited international text messages.

  7. Habib says:

Increase the price by 5$ and add lebanon and pakistan maybe afghanistan….. people dont care about price even if one country had a set fee and was unlimited, usually people call one or two countries not 45 countries …… !!!!!!!!!

  8. Johnny says:

This is the standard 45 countries that I see in international packages from many companies that try to offer some type of “international calling package”…. when will there ever be the Philippines…?

  9. Mira says:

You mentioned that we can call India, China, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong on this long-distance plan, will there be other countries added where long distance to mobile will be unlimited, specifically UK? And will there be updates shown as to which countries this is available for because if you hadn’t written the above comment I wouldn’t have known mobile to mobile calls are included in this long-distance plan?

  10. naveed says:

Remember guys, you can onl call landlines in these 45 countries. My request to Public Mobile is to offer unlimited calls to both landlines and mobile numbers to Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Dubai.

Why not make a package, call it Middle East Asia, add “Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Dubai-Iran” in this package and offer unlimited calls.

  11. arbab says:

iwant you to edd tanzania please we nead your service.

  14. Ab says:

Most people do not want to call hundred countries, one, two or three countries that is all

It is better to make the package like this

    1 country $10
    2 countries $13
    .
    .
    .
You need to add more countries, Iran, arab… look at ethnics in Canada.

  15. Arp says:

Public Mobile is offering great plans! But I am little bit disappointed not seeing BANGLADESH in the list of 45 countries.

I have many friends who are really interested, but as BANGLADESH is not in the list, they are hesitating to switch.

I hope, Public Mobile will add Bangladesh in the list soon!! If you do, please make it for both home phones and land lines.

    Regards,
    Arp

  24. Ikram says:

I would like to see unlimited calls to Pakistan. I think instead of making it for 45 countries, it would be better to give one or two countries in a package. This way, there will be less chance of people abusing it by, such as giving the phone to their friends etc. You can also put a fine print to the plan that suspected misuse will be disallowed to discourage people from, again, abusing the service.

  25. Andy says:

Hello sir…so many pakistani who live in Canada thay call to his relative and relation’s in pakistan but they used calling Card..i want that you also included pakistan also in your unlimted long distance call in pakistan..

    have nice day

    bye

  26. Rana says:

About 5 hundred thousands Pakistanis live in Canada. And about 5 million relatives of Pakistanis live in middle east, like countries in UAE and Saudi Arabia. If you could make a package only including Pakistan and middle east counties. Definitely you will get thousands of Pakistanis living in Canada instantly.

  27. shelley-anne says:

It would be really nice to have Barbados,Jamaica ect… on that list. like most of the comments left there is a huge amount of Carribean people in Canada.

Hi im bangladeshi, thanks for your suggestion. There are extremely high costs associated with calling Bangladesh which is why this country is currently not included in our unlimited plan. (For more information, please see this blog post: http://blog.publicmobile.ca/blog/2010/07/29/country-suggestions-for-the-unlimited-overseas-long-distance/) We will continue to look for ways to be able to include Bangladesh in our unlimited overseas plan. In the meantime, you can use a prepaid calling card to call this country at a low cost. Also, Bangladesh is included in our unlimited texting plan.

  36. jORDAN says:

HOW COME JAMAICA IS NOT ON THE LIST?

  37. Cathy says:

Please add Jamaica to your list of international calls and then you would have half of Toronto. The Caribbean make up a big part of Toronto diverse community.

In the meantime, you can use a prepaid calling card to call at a low cost. Also, Pakistan is included in our unlimited texting plan.

Hi Odrey, you don’t need to change handsets to change your current plan. To change your plan, simply call our customer service department at 1-877-999-5055 or *611 from your phone, or visit your local Public Mobile store. http://www.publicmobile.ca/pmconsumer/storeLocator?lang=en
