Toronto & Montreal Network Update – July 23

By david | Posted July 23rd, 2010

For Toronto, the work progressed and continues on the sites along the Gardiner Expressway and at the Lawrence Ave W. and Keele Ave site. These sites should improve the in-building coverage for the residential areas surrounding these sites. These sites should be completed by August 2nd.

As for Montreal, the following areas have had work done, and should see improved coverage:

  • Lachine: Sherbrooke St.
  • Ahunstic: intersection of Charles de la Tour St. and Antonio Barbeau St.
  • Montreal-North: intersection of D’Amiens St. and Pigeon St.
  • Plateau Mount Royal: near St-Denis, Rachel St., Papineau Av., St-Joseph Blvd., Saint-Laurent Blvd.
  • East Downtown: McGill University, near Park Av., Saint-Laurent Blvd., St-Denis St., Rene-Levesque Blvd. West, Sherbrooke Street West
  • Town of Mount Royal: Dunkirk Rd. and the intersection of Rockland Rd. and Graham Blvd.
  • Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve: Hochelaga St.
  • Tétreaultville; the intersection of Pierre-de-Coubertin Av. and French St.
  • Anjou & Riviere-des-Prairies: Highway 40, from the Ray Lawson Blvd. (Anjou) to Saint-Jean Baptiste Blvd. And the refineries areas.
  • Saint-Laurent: intersection of Grenet St. and Rochon St.

Next week’s improvements will be fewer as the construction stoppage begins to affect what is possible. Currently we are planning on adding a site at St-Jacques St. and Hwy 15, which should improve the coverage from Hwy 15  to Hwy 20/720 in the East.

If you have any questions or comments, please let us know. We forward them on to the teams here at Public Mobile as they help us improve service and be responsive to you.

I was able to make calls in the basement of a church on the corner of Saint-Joseph and Saint-Zotique. I was quite surprised.

It is also funny how I also get coverage in some areas in Laval.

    So it is improving

  2. Philip Morson says:

Still getting little to no coverage in NDG on and around sherbrooke street as well as Monkland. So basically in the vicinity of the Villa Maria and Vendome metro stations.
Dropped calls, or no signal at all.
Also the service is variable around the sir george williams (dowtown) campus of Concordia.

Good signal strength on Parc Ave. though and at Dorval airport.

  3. NDG says:

Still very weak signal in Most of NDG. We’ve been promised a fix for nearly a month now.

  4. Ville St-Pierre says:

Starting to see improvement in Ville St-Pierre, a little in Montreal-Ouest also, i was able to receive and make a call inside my work today, first time for me but the signal is still very unstable i can go from 3 bars to none in a few seconds, NDG is very close from Montreal-Ouest, hopefully PM will give its customers an update very soon for those areas, i have seen many request from bloggers about NDG, thanks.

I live in LaSalle sud Angrignon – Rue Thibert,, and from the date of your big launch I get only promises (i have to get in the street to talk with somebody, to have 1 ligne of signal, and I must pray to GOD to end my conversation well).. what’s even funnier is that you have a shop in Carrefour Angrignon and only from 24 July you’ve managed to get signal there (but barely 1 ligne and also promises). I don’t want to quit your network but you give me no choice. Even theoversea sms option doesnt work. I’ve talked with your representat and couldn’t give me an answer just the same answer:’ we will get back to you after …’
    Have a nice day.

We’ve ben waiting for the service yopu provides for years, finally we have it. But I live in a building on Ethier and Charleroi, I have a very weak signal, that I have to go standing outside to make a call.

  7. Daniel says:

still seeing no improvement on the mt royal/ St Andre near the PM store.

Calls only work outside or near the window, and always sound like I am making a 1973 call by satellite to behind the iron curtain.

Have talked to two customer reps, the network technical director and had my phone swapped, and nothing has improved.

Calls still sound like garbage, when I can even make one! People say “oh, are you on your public mobile phone?”

  8. orotta says:

Please do something at intersection Stuart ave and Ball ave area in Parc EX, Montreal.I have one bar only and i live in 1st floor.

  11. Sheldon says:

People won’t accept calls from my phone. Even when I speak in an area with 5 bars of service the sound on the other end is terrible. I am going to drop your service. Your price point is good, but your execution sucks.

  12. Dustin says:

Reception isn’t good in LaSalle. I barely get a signal in my home. There is no signal in Wal-Mart, grocery stores or Carrefour Angrignon. The phone gets very warm. I am still getting drop calls almost every 3 calls.

My signal is improving absolutely everywhere. Public Mobile, though they got a slow start, is doing a great job. They promised me service by the end of this next month, but I already have it in many places. I know that many people are frustrated over weak signals, but I see constant improvement. A couple of weeks ago, I didn’t have a signal in my new apartment. Now I have almost full bars. Last week, I did not have a signal in Verdun. Now I do. I felt skeptical at first, but my full faith in this company and its service is restored.

As someone who just moved to the city of Montreal, I am very thankful for this service. My whole family and many of my friends are in the US, and you wouldn’t believe what a hassle it is to talk with them if you are with other phone plans here. My boyfriend just got an iPhone and it has been nothing but constant charges and confusion.

In addition, as a person who works in marketing and advertising, I am constantly impressed with Public Mobile’s willingness to keep in contact with their consumers. This blog is a perfect example.
