How is the coverage for the West Island of Montreal coming along? It states September 2010 on the website, is the coverage fully running right now?

    Hello
Yesterday I bought a mobile from poblic
I was told the first month is free
So why should the first on September 23 bill to pay?

CAN A PUBLIC MOBILE PHONE WORKS ANYWHERE

  8. Sheldon says:

Say I can answer some of the questions I see in this blog post. The West Island of Montreal is not yet being serviced. It will be “in September”. September has 30 days in it. So I am not holding my breath. However, they have sites as far west as ville St. Laurent. I live in DDO and sometimes get reception at Galleries des Sources. I suggest that they bring the West Island up in stages by adding more coverage week by week. I don’t think that is tjheir plan though.

About the Kyocera G2GO, its a great phone and works well on the network. I have a friend with the Samsung and it is even better!

Public Mobile is a very customer-centric company. They are high;y-motivated to please their customers. I support them because I like their value proposition, but I also like doing business with the company. Customer service is competent and friendly. I cannot say that about any other brand, and I have tried them all.

I saw some people question the billing practices with respect to the free month. You just wont have to pay it. It is that simple. This company keeps their word.

You must realize that this is a fledgling network. It is being designed and built from the ground up. It is also a different network with 3-4 times the amount of towers being built. What does that mean? Huge capacity for voice and eventually data. And to me that means two things… reliability, and because the capacity is so high, low prices.

Say, I am proud of this post! LOL!

hello there, after seeing you promotion, i have decided that i am going to get a plan with public mobile within the next few days.(basically when i get a day off) i was just wondering, are your phone numbers 514 or 438 area codes?

  10. Steven M says:

Thanks for the post Sheldon, if there’s no West Island coverage yet then I can’t get this for my parents. Guess we’ll have to see what’s going on later in September, thanks!

  11. buckets says:

    @malcolm 438

  12. sara says:

can you sign up for this and then change the plan the next month to the $24?

  13. True says:

Yes you can, with public mobile ..* thank god* there are no contracts,
so switching to another plan is simple :)

  14. Alexey says:

    Switched yesterday.

    Pros and cons

    Pros:
    1. Superb client service.
    2. 100% matching to announced promotion and plans.

    Cons.
    1. Low or no signal in the building corner Walkley/CSL
    2. Gifts (a case and headset) don’t match the phone model.

    Some suggestions.

    1. Improve coverage.
    2. Add some phones.
    3. Allow to receive txt in 24$ plan.
    4. Make a data plan.
    5. Make a web form on the site for sending text messages.

  15. Dustin says:

    Hi,

A WARNING to those in Montreal who got PM phone between May 28 to before the service went live. Two weeks ago the head office change their policy with those that have free CND for life who join between those dates . You CAN’T downgrade to the $24 plan or else you lose the free long-distance plan.

I learned that the hard way today. When I call them, I was told to complain to the store manger about the “misinforming” me and ask for something. When I told them, that I received an email from June 30 saying the contrary, they told me the truth. I wasn’t informed and I want to inform the community have PM honour its commitments.

I am disappointed with PM for lying to me in the first place when I call to say that my long-distance wasn’t working, not telling their customers of the policy changes, and for not honoring its free CND long-distance for life for any plan to those that signedup between the May 28 to the day the network then live in Montreal.

  16. Dustin says:

In order for you to have your free CND for life if you want to downgrade, you will have to play (40-24)*12 = $192 a year extra to have the $40 plan

    I had hopes for PM..

  17. mona says:

I was wondering if the first month is free and I have the 24$/month plan…will i be able to text without getting charged? even though it is not part of my plan?
also can i receive text with the 24$/month plan? my dad just got me the phone on monday and i dont know much about it or the plan.

  18. Dustin says:

YOu can’t get or send text with the $24 plan.

  19. ahmed says:

this is shit i can t even use my phone in my own house
thats layme andi just spent 105$ for it

  20. ahmed says:

to me thats robbing the customers
p.s if this is happing to some one else comment

  21. phil says:

    @ ahmed
this is happening to lots of people! many of my friends that have public have made complaints about the service.
someone told me it has something to do with the frequency they are on, so it does not work well indoors

  22. Alexey says:

Yeah, still have problems of using the phone indoors. It seems that service works well only near big roads outdoors.

  23. Alexey says:

    some positive effect)))

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obsidWFnvHo

    just made it

  24. Alejo says:

Hey, when are the new cellphone models coming in? Which models would they be?
    Thnx

  25. Dustin says:

Don’t know? I hope some Sony phones. Anything other then the ZTE.

  26. Dustin says:

Concerning the warning i issued. Apparently I wasn’t told upfront and a little later that if you were on the $40 plan after May 26 you couldn’t downgrade and keep the promotion. I talk to PM and the problem should be settled today. PM PR rep was very nice. Thanks for your support.

  27. Nana says:

But will the network for Vaudreuil sur le lac will be there in september beacuse i live there i i can only call wen im in montreal so thats bad thx

  28. mona says:

wait you cant even get free incoming text?! even if its not part of your plan? i thought incoming text was always free. no matter what network no matter what plan. am i wrong?

  29. Dustin says:

mona, only with the $40 plan can you rec and send text. PM use their own network so you can use Fido network. You get unlimited incoming calls not text with any plan.

  30. Dustin says:

I meant to say can’t use Fido network not can.

  31. Chakara says:

im with telus, if i deactivate my phone, can i keep the number i have now, if i go with public mobile?, and im 17 can i do this plan, without parental.

  32. Dustin says:

Chakara, there is no contract for you to sign. As long as you pay before the due date then you are fine. If you can make the payments without your parents help then it is okay. You can’t keep your old number, i believe.

  33. Nag says:

Hi, I am currently with fido and live in mcgill ghetto. I would like to switch to public mobile.
    could you answer me:
    - Can I retain my old number.
    - As my contract ends in Jan-2011, Is your 40$ with 15$ international will be available in Jan.
Hope your are spreading and developing your network well to suite every place in montreal.

    Thanks for the reply.

  34. buckets says:

public mobile can port your number over as long as its still active. when pm ports the number it automatically cancels your account with fido

  35. Stevie says:

I am in debating if I should take this company as I am impressed with their rate plans as its amazing and is cheaper then getting a house fone

  36. dya says:

how long before oshawa gets the phone.. and is there a roaming charge.. can u use it indoorss

  37. aneill says:

Hi Nag, yes, as long as the phone number is active you can keep it. We have no plans to change our $40 unlimited talk and text plan or our $15 unlimited long-distance plan. The majority of the island of Montreal is now covered and we’re continuing to build our coverage as fast as we can. You can stay updated on new areas we’ve expanded to through our regular Friday network updates on the blog, as well as with our coverage map.

  38. aneill says:

Hi Chakara, yes as long as the phone number is active and you are the account holder, you can keep your phone number. With Public Mobile there are no contracts and no credit checks so you can purchase service regardless of your age.

  39. mango says:

I just bought a Kyocera G2GO for 140$. That’s bad I didn’t know it before. There is nothing to do with that?

  40. aneill says:

@Mona Both incoming and outgoing text messages are free of charge to Canada, the USA and international countries (certain providers) with the $40 plan. See this list of countries included http://blog.publicmobile.ca/files/2010/07/List-of-Intl.-Sms-Countries.pdf

  41. aljoroje says:

I just bought a samsung PM today, my wife can’t give me a call, says “network busy”, but I could easily give her a call, we are in the same location. It’s says that in a 24$ plan you cannot receive/send a text message. But I tried to text her and she received my text messages, she even replied to it. Am i billed by that? How come I can send/receive text messages? Please give me a clear explanation on this. Thnx

  42. jeff lamphere says:

If u live north of Sheppard Ave in Toronto do not buy a public mobile phone!!! I did and I work at Keele and finch and I’m always losing reception

  43. Katie says:

Hey, I live in NDG. Anyone know how the service is here?

  44. Morrie says:

Any news on West Island coverage?

  45. paul says:

i’ve got the unlimited text but the problem is that my friends can’t send me text from japan. other than this i can’t wait to see having more option with PM phones. none of those 4 phones available suits my needs.

  46. Public Mobile says:

Hi Paul, in Japan, only two service providers are 2 way connected for SMS with Public Mobilie: DOCOMO and SOFTBANK. In order for you to receive their text messages, your friends will need to have Docomo or Softbank phones.

  47. public lover says:

    hey,
where is the samsung phone i didin’t see it at your phone list
    best regards

    david

  48. John F says:
