Toronto Network Update

By david | Posted July 13th, 2010

A question came in over the weekend pointing out that we hadn’t updated everyone on the Toronto network. While we’ve been working hard improving the Montreal coverage and letting everyone know what we’ve been doing, the network build in Toronto has continued as well. Since the end of June we’ve added the following sites that improve coverage at the following locations:

  • Bloor Street and Bathurst Street
  • Lakeshore Boulevard and Spadina Ave.
  • Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East
  • Victoria Park and Sheppard Avenue East
  • Bloor Street East and Parliament Avenue
  • Highway 401 and Meadowvale Avenue

We’re continuing to build and expand the network as fast as we can, and appreciate your patience and feedback as we do so.

We’ll have an update for both Montreal and Toronto on Friday, letting you know what’s been happening in the past week.

We stopped by the Wellesley Street store the other day and spent some time with two of the guys that work there – Alex and Thameen. They are excited to be working for Public Mobile and the opportunities it presents being a new company starting out. Both are currently students studying here in Toronto – Alex studying International Business, and Thameen studying Electrical Engineering.

Thanks for all your efforts guys.

There’s something else to cheer about.

Toronto Dealers Rally for Network Launch

By david | Posted June 4th, 2010

On May 25th, Public Mobile celebrated the network launch in Toronto with their dealers and employees.  They enjoyed good food, entertainment and had a panel discussion with the executive team and Public Mobile’s handset vendors, Samsung, Kyocera and ZTE.  We’re looking forward to a similar celebration at the end of June as we turn on the network in Montreal.

Do you know Peter Bregg?

By david | Posted April 30th, 2010

Have you seen our ads out on the street? If you have, you have been looking at the work of one of Canada’s most accomplished photographers, Peter Bregg. Peter has spent 40 years covering events around the world like the Vietnam War (1973), Iran hostage crisis (1979), Poland’s Solidarity movement (1981), and the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York. Peter also at various points worked as either a photographer or photo editor for the Associated Press, Canadian Press, Maclean’s magazine and HELLO! Magazine.

Besides being a great photographer, Peter has a big heart and has also donated his time to PhotoSensitive, a collective of photographers who use their talents towards social justice. Peter’s work within PhotoSensitive has taken him to locations such as Mozambique, Rwanda and Zambia. Images from the PhotoSensitive and the causes they represent can be seen at www.photoSensitive.com.

Public Mobile feels really lucky that Peter came to shoot our photos – we think they look great.

Alek in the Office Part 3- On doing the right thing.

By david | Posted April 20th, 2010

We’re continuing our conversation with Alek, and asking him what sets us apart and how we’ll be able to provide our customers with the value and service we’re promising. From the very beginning, Public Mobile’s core focus has been the customer. We know that to succeed as a company, we have to take care of our customers and keep them happy. Here Alek talks about our primary goals and about doing the right thing for the customer.

What we know for sure – Public Mobile in French

By david | Posted January 27th, 2010

We’re very proud of the team we’ve assembled and we want to introduce you to as many of them as possible.  Back in November you met a handful of the Public Mobile team when we posted a clip featuring our Toronto employees talking about ‘one thing’ they wanted you to know about Public Mobile and the service we want to provide. Here’s a small glimpse at our Montreal group of friends and employees talking about what makes Public Mobile special.

Alek in the office – Part 2

By david | Posted January 21st, 2010

As we’ve mentioned, our plan was to launch Public Mobile at the end of 2009. It’s taken a little longer than we originally anticipated,  but we’d never want to launch a network that didn’t meet our standards. We’ve also been listening to get an even better understanding of the kind of provider you’ve been waiting for. We’re doing some testing and overall tweaking to ensure that you will have the best service that we can provide. The launch date is now scheduled for the first half of 2010 and we’re working hard to deliver a service you’ll be happy with.

Wondering what we’ve been up to? Below, Alek talks about what goes into building a cell phone company from the ground up.

Alek in the office – Part 1

By david | Posted December 3rd, 2009

We’ve had some questions recently on where Public Mobile fits in the mobile phone marketplace, and where we see ourselves in the future. We are hard at work building a business for value-conscious customers who are not well served by the current incumbents. We want to build a company that customers, our employees and our investors can be very proud of.

We also asked the question to Alek, and here’s what he had to say on where he sees Public Mobile in 5 years.

By david | Posted November 4th, 2009

Hi there

By david | Posted November 3rd, 2009

My name’s Alek, and I’m just one of the many people behind Public Mobile. I’m pretty proud to see how far we’ve progressed since we began, but also recognize we’ve got a way to go for our dream of affordable and accessible mobile phone service to come true.

Everyone has something interesting to say, and the right to say it. That’s what inspired us to create Public Mobile – that communication is a right, not a privilege.

We will offer a flat-rate, no-contract, no-nonsense plan that makes it easy for people to plan what they spend, while talking and texting as much as they want.

What all of us here at Public Mobile want most is to be a company that matters to you. We’re working hard to give you something of real value, and know that keeping your business means treating you like a real person. We have set up this blog to allow people to ask the team here at Public Mobile questions, share ideas and tell us what is important to you. We will let you know about what we’re up to, and what we’ve got planned for the future.

So, let’s get this conversation started.

What would you like to talk about today?

Alek

CEO, Public Mobile

Everybody Talk.
