We’re celebrating our one-year anniversary in Montreal!

By david | Posted June 25th, 2011

This month marks one year since we began offering service in the Montreal region!

Public Mobile has certainly grown in more ways than one in the past year and we want to thank our team of dedicated employees and loyal customers who have played a big part in allowing us to remain competitive in the Canadian telecom industry.

Over the last year, the Company has grown in Montreal and has expanded off the island into the South Shore and parts of Laval with services provided and community outreach programs.

Our company continues to grow and so does our desire to make a difference in the communities we service. Public Mobile has been adamant about supporting youth and making a difference in its areas of business. In Montreal alone, the Company has been sponsoring 58 local soccer teams in an effort to improve children’s health and encourage fitness from an early age. Public Mobile also gave away 5,000 back to school supply kits for elementary and high school students in an attempt to provide school supplies to children who might otherwise go without.

We’ve said it once – ok, maybe more than once – and we’ll say it again: we are committed to finding ways of making talking affordable and available to Canadians everywhere. This past year was just the beginning so stay tuned!

Get your unlimited on

By david | Posted June 17th, 2011

Thanks to everyone who sent in their shots for the new campaign! Casting is now closed. Stay tuned for our new campaign coming soon.

———————————————

Let’s talk about a career in advertising.

If you’ve seen Public Mobile’s advertising campaign you know that we’d rather show super people than supermodels. And our new campaign is no different. Except this time, we’re giving you a chance to be a part of it.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Send a photo of you, in your best ‘Unlimited’ pose, to iwanttobeunlimited@publicmobile.ca. Make sure we can see you clearly in the picture. From the waist-up would be perfect.
  • Include your first and last name, your phone number and the city you live in.
  • The photograph you submit will not be used, under any circumstances, without your permission. All submissions will be permanently erased once the final selection is made.
  • Persons under 18 will require parental consent to participate in the photo shoot.
  • We’ll contact you to let you know if you’ll be included in this upcoming campaign.
  • If you are included, we’ll contact you to provide all the details you’ll need to know about what happens next.

Thank you so much for wanting to be a part of this great campaign. We’ll talk to you soon.

We’re celebrating our one-year anniversary in Toronto!

By david | Posted May 27th, 2011

Yesterday marked a full year since we launched service in Toronto, Ontario and expanded into the Greater Toronto Area, servicing a network from Hamilton to Oshawa. We are very proud of the progress that our company has made in the past year and, more importantly, of the relationships we’ve built with our customers and employees.

Your commitment and support, as well as our own, has allowed us to stay competitive in this challenging market and to provide you with plans and products that truly make it possible for everybody to talk.

We also feel very fortunate to have been involved with youth programs in communities we service. To date we’ve sponsored 120 local soccer teams, donated 5,000 back-to-school kits to elementary and high school students, as well as supporting community initiatives with phones, monthly phone service and charitable donations.

But it doesn’t end there. With a successful first year under our belt, we are more motivated than ever to continue changing our country’s telecommunications industry for the better. As Public Mobile’s CEO Alek Krstajic said, “we serve the needs of hard-working Canadians and we’re always looking for new and exciting ways to give back to the communities that have been a constant source of support.”

On behalf of everyone at Public Mobile, thank you.

We want to change the Canadian cellphone industry. For good.

By david | Posted March 31st, 2011

Today we’re announcing the launch of our $15 unlimited plan. And we’re thinking it’ll do us all a world of good.

Canadian cellphone users have been held hostage for years. We have been paying outrageous fees for telecommunication services. It’s always been Public Mobile’s mission to change this. Today we have.

With a straightforward $15 a month plan there is now a real alternative to prepaid cards. No more counting minutes, topping up or standing in line. And no more paying up to 40 cents a minute.

And now, cutting the cord on our home phones is possible. Which would mean we could stop paying ludicrous 40-year old charges like ‘Touch-Tone’ or crazy made up fees like ‘network access’ on long distance plans.

Could this be more than just a new rate plan announcement? Maybe it could be about us deciding to enrich our communities instead of making three big companies richer. We like that idea. So we are launching our Public Good initiative. Starting today, we will donate $10,000 to local charities for every 10,000 new customers who join Public Mobile. To kick things off, we are donating to the Because I am a Girl charity run by Plan Canada.

We think that this way, we all win. For good.

Public Mobile, ZTE and the Export-Import Bank of China Agree On $350 Million Financing Arrangement

    By david | Posted June 24th, 2010

Public Mobile, ZTE and the Export-Import Bank of China have agreed to the terms of a $350M financing arrangement that supports Public Mobile’s plan to build a wireless network stretching across its licensed area from Windsor to Quebec City.

This vendor financing arrangement, combined with hundreds of millions of dollars in equity commitments from its shareholders, means Public Mobile has a fully funded business plan and can build out its entire licensed area.

From a national perspective, this partnership is important because it supports Public Mobile’s investment in building a competitive wireless network.  It will also continue to create and provide Canadian jobs.  Construction of the network has already generated 100 high tech jobs in Ontario and Quebec.

“This is a significant deal for both Public Mobile and ZTE,” said Alek Krstajic, CEO of Public Mobile. “ZTE provides the world’s top mobile operators with high-quality and high-capacity network performance,” added Krstajic.

ZTE is a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions and has provided products and services to major telecom operators in 140 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Did the government make new rules?

    By david | Posted January 19th, 2010

Alek appeared on the CBC Business show ‘The Lang & O’Leary Exchange’ to explain why Public Mobile wants the Federal Court of Canada to review the government’s decision to approve Globalive’s ownership structure.

In the interview Alek explains that Public Mobile is not looking to stop Globalive from operating, he simply wants the same rights when it comes to raising outside capital. This will provide benefits to consumers, allowing networks to expand faster and more competition in Canada.
