What a weekend in Châteauguay! Public Mobile’s newest store is now open and we brought hockey legend Guy Lafleur along to celebrate.
The event was a huge success, with over 250 excited hockey fans in attendance. We handed out cards so that fans could get an autograph although many brought their own memorabilia for Guy to sign! He was also happy to pose for photos with some of our lucky customers.
Have a look at our album on Facebook to see photos of the event!

For many of our customers this time of year signals the beginning of Back to School season. And that usually goes hand in hand with Back to School shopping: a new wardrobe, new shoes, new school supplies and countless other things. To help you keep your budget on track, we’ve been posting useful tips on our Facebook page throughout the week. If you missed them or need to consult them once again, here they are:
Top 5 Back to School Budget Tips for Parents Presented by Public Mobile
1. Have a game plan
Make a list of all Back to School items that you think your child will need. This will help control your spending and ensure that you stay on top of your budget.
2. Shop alone
The best way to stick to your list is to shop alone. This will help avoid a cart full of unnecessary items and separate the wants from the needs.
3. Recycle supplies
Re-use what you can. If the binder, backpack or pencil case are all still in good shape, don’t toss them in the garbage just yet. See what supplies you have from last year and salvage what you can.
4. Prepare lunches
This is a great way to satisfy your wallet and your children’s appetites. There are tons of great recipe ideas online that are affordable, healthy and delicious!
5. Choose a cell phone that’s right for you
What can really make your heart stop is your child’s mobile phone bill. To avoid any surprises, do your research and buy a plan that is right for you. Public Mobile offers a wide variety of unlimited and affordable mobile phone services with no contracts or credit check.

Public Mobile was one of the proud co-sponsors of the “Taste of Italy” event that took place on College Street in Toronto over the weekend of June 18th.
The 12th edition of the event was a huge – and delicious – success! Approximately 200,000 people were in attendance, all of them there to connect with the community and to take part in cultural activities. 45 local restaurants provided samples of their finest lasagna, lamb skewers, meatball sandwiches and fresh crêpes. The event also featured performances from aboriginal, jazz and independent musicians adding to the lively atmosphere!
What makes this kind of event particularly special for us is that we get to connect with the community, meet new people and learn more about what matters to them.
If you attended the ‘Taste of Little Italy’ event, please write in and tell us about some of the highlights!

This month marks one year since we began offering service in the Montreal region!
Public Mobile has certainly grown in more ways than one in the past year and we want to thank our team of dedicated employees and loyal customers who have played a big part in allowing us to remain competitive in the Canadian telecom industry.
Over the last year, the Company has grown in Montreal and has expanded off the island into the South Shore and parts of Laval with services provided and community outreach programs.
Our company continues to grow and so does our desire to make a difference in the communities we service. Public Mobile has been adamant about supporting youth and making a difference in its areas of business. In Montreal alone, the Company has been sponsoring 58 local soccer teams in an effort to improve children’s health and encourage fitness from an early age. Public Mobile also gave away 5,000 back to school supply kits for elementary and high school students in an attempt to provide school supplies to children who might otherwise go without.
We’ve said it once – ok, maybe more than once – and we’ll say it again: we are committed to finding ways of making talking affordable and available to Canadians everywhere. This past year was just the beginning so stay tuned!

Thanks to everyone who sent in their shots for the new campaign! Casting is now closed. Stay tuned for our new campaign coming soon.
———————————————
Let’s talk about a career in advertising.
If you’ve seen Public Mobile’s advertising campaign you know that we’d rather show super people than supermodels. And our new campaign is no different. Except this time, we’re giving you a chance to be a part of it.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Send a photo of you, in your best ‘Unlimited’ pose, to iwanttobeunlimited@publicmobile.ca. Make sure we can see you clearly in the picture. From the waist-up would be perfect.
- Include your first and last name, your phone number and the city you live in.
- The photograph you submit will not be used, under any circumstances, without your permission. All submissions will be permanently erased once the final selection is made.
- Persons under 18 will require parental consent to participate in the photo shoot.
- We’ll contact you to let you know if you’ll be included in this upcoming campaign.
- If you are included, we’ll contact you to provide all the details you’ll need to know about what happens next.
Thank you so much for wanting to be a part of this great campaign. We’ll talk to you soon.

Yesterday marked a full year since we launched service in Toronto, Ontario and expanded into the Greater Toronto Area, servicing a network from Hamilton to Oshawa. We are very proud of the progress that our company has made in the past year and, more importantly, of the relationships we’ve built with our customers and employees.
Your commitment and support, as well as our own, has allowed us to stay competitive in this challenging market and to provide you with plans and products that truly make it possible for everybody to talk.
We also feel very fortunate to have been involved with youth programs in communities we service. To date we’ve sponsored 120 local soccer teams, donated 5,000 back-to-school kits to elementary and high school students, as well as supporting community initiatives with phones, monthly phone service and charitable donations.
But it doesn’t end there. With a successful first year under our belt, we are more motivated than ever to continue changing our country’s telecommunications industry for the better. As Public Mobile’s CEO Alek Krstajic said, “we serve the needs of hard-working Canadians and we’re always looking for new and exciting ways to give back to the communities that have been a constant source of support.”
On behalf of everyone at Public Mobile, thank you.

Today we’re announcing the launch of our $15 unlimited plan. And we’re thinking it’ll do us all a world of good.
Canadian cellphone users have been held hostage for years. We have been paying outrageous fees for telecommunication services. It’s always been Public Mobile’s mission to change this. Today we have.
With a straightforward $15 a month plan there is now a real alternative to prepaid cards. No more counting minutes, topping up or standing in line. And no more paying up to 40 cents a minute.
And now, cutting the cord on our home phones is possible. Which would mean we could stop paying ludicrous 40-year old charges like ‘Touch-Tone’ or crazy made up fees like ‘network access’ on long distance plans.
Could this be more than just a new rate plan announcement? Maybe it could be about us deciding to enrich our communities instead of making three big companies richer. We like that idea. So we are launching our Public Good initiative. Starting today, we will donate $10,000 to local charities for every 10,000 new customers who join Public Mobile. To kick things off, we are donating to the Because I am a Girl charity run by Plan Canada.
We think that this way, we all win. For good.
To get inspired, watch our video here.
Learn more and read the full press release here.

If life is taking you on the road, Public Mobile has good news for you: Our network is now larger. We have expanded our network and have added roaming, making it possible for you to talk and text while you’re traveling outside of our Unlimited Coverage Area.
Our roaming works on a pay-per-use basis, so you will only be charged when you use the service. Here are the steps to set up roaming:
- Dial *228 when in the Public Mobile network area to update your phone. Public Mobile has sent out an automatic update via the network, but in some cases your phone might not have received it.
- Some money in your Public Mobile wallet before leaving town. Existing customers can call *611 and have a one-time $5 credit applied to their account to get started with roaming.
Public Mobile’s roaming charges are 15¢/minute, the lowest price in Canada, and will allow you to call any destination in Canada or the United States. For incoming calls, the same roaming charges of 15¢/minute apply and allow you to accept calls from Canada, the United States or international destinations. If you have text messaging, you will be able to receive unlimited free text messages while roaming and will only be charged 15¢ for any messages you send.
You can choose to roam by setting your phone to ‘automatic’. Instructions are available here or you can call *611 from your Public Mobile phone for assistance from our contact centre.
Our roaming coverage area includes major cities in both Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.
For more information on roaming, consult our February 28th blog post on the subject.

The Chinese New Year begins February 3rd and Public Mobile would like to wish all a prosperous New Year. Tradition holds that this year is set to be calmer, especially following the high momentum of the previous year of the Tiger. Even if you don’t follow the Chinese calendar cycle, it is a nice reminder for all of us to take a moment to breath, relax and enjoy the things important to us – like re-connecting with friends and family and those people that are important to you.
For anyone wanting to wish their overseas friends or family members a happy Chinese New Year, Public Mobile has an unlimited long distance feature that will make it possible to talk as long and as often as you want for only $15 per month.
Texting to China is also FREE for anyone who has the $35 talk and text plan.

Public Mobile customers certainly are a friendly bunch – we’ve been collecting applications and busily handing out credits non-stop since we started the program. The friendship pays offer is so popular, that we’ve decided to keep it going.
Here’s how it works – refer your friends to Public Mobile and get a $20 credit for every friend who joins. There is no limit to the number of friends you can refer, so the more friends that join, the more you save. So get on the bandwagon and start saving in 3 easy steps:
- Refer a friend to Public Mobile
- Your friend chooses one of our unlimited plans
- You’ll receive a $20 credit, which will be applied to your account within 6 weeks.
Our lawyers want us to tell you that to receive the credit both accounts must be in good standing, and credits cannot be redeemed for cash and in some cases may not be combined with other offers.
For more info call 1-877-999-5055.
Free stuff. That’s what friends are for.

Happy holidays and best wishes for the New Year from all of us at Public Mobile.
As we near the end of 2010, we can’t help but reflect back on the year we’ve had and the achievements that were made. The people that have been hired and the team we built; receiving our license from the government; launching our network in Toronto and Montreal; and building stores and teaming up with all our retail partners. But most of all, we want to thank all the Canadians who chose Public Mobile and helped us improve by providing feedback and support. As fondly as we look back at 2010 and all that it held, we’re looking forward to an exciting 2011.
Just a quick reminder that we’ll be taking some time off to get into the holiday spirit with our family and friends but look forward to talking to you again in January.

Our Find the $10,000 Public Mobile Phone contest has ended and the two lucky winners will be having a very Merry Christmas indeed.
In Montreal, listeners of NRJ 94.3FM searched the city daily to find the hidden phones until the phone winners met last Friday for the finale, at our store on Wellington Street in Verdun. They were told to bring their new Public Mobile phones because the winner would receive a call from our head office informing them that they won. Sébastien David couldn’t contain his excitement when his phone rang, making him the recipient of the $10,000 cash prize. The world is now his oyster, as Sébastien will be using the money to do a bit of traveling. In Toronto, our finalists, who had diligently listened to BOOM 97.3FM for clues, gathered last Saturday at our store on Danforth Ave. and Denisa Kroscenova was the fortunate one to win the $10,000 cash prize. She plans on using the money to buy something that many Canadians wish for in the winter – a new car.
Congrats to both Sébastien and Denisa and we hope that all of our 19 finalists enjoy their new Kyocera G2GO phones and their three months of unlimited talk and text service!
